World Premiere in Boston with Andris Nelsons, Baiba Skride and Harriet Krijgh
We are excited to announce that three artists represented by Konzertdirektion Schmid will perform together tonight in Boston for the world premiere of Sofia Gubaidulina's "Triple Concerto for violin, cello, and bayan". Joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra, their Music Director Andris Nelsons and Latvian violinist Baiba Skride are Dutch cellist Harriet Krijgh and Swiss bayanist Elsbeth Moser, both making their debuts in Boston.
Sofia Gubaidulina composed her Triple Concerto, for violin, cello, and bayan, creating a unique sound as a reminiscence to Russian folk music. Her music is a thrilling experience, involving exquisite compositional craft, intense emotional expression, and spiritual immersion. Russian-born Gubaidulina, who is undoubtably one of the most significant contemporary composers, had been inspired by Dmitri Shostakovich's work very early in her career.
Gubaidulina’s Triple Concerto was commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. To listen to the Audio Concert Preview please follow this link.
The concert programme will be repeated on 24 February at 13:30 and on 25 February 2017 at 20:00 at Symphony Hall in Boston. On 28 Februray 2017 the Boston Symphony Orchestra is guest with the Triple Concerto at the Carnegie Hall.
