Academy of St Martin in the Fields with cycle of Mendelssohn

14.12.2016

From 17.12.2016 on the Academy will perform a cycle with Mendelssohn’s symphonies as well as his violin and piano concerto in Munich and Baden-Baden. The passed away Sir Neville Marriner was to be conducting these concerts initially. Now the Spanish conductor Jaime Martín will take over the baton.

Originally as a flautist, Martín worked with Neville at the Academy and continued this cooperation after starting his conducting career, such as at the Orquestra de Cadaqués. Lady Molly Marriner is sure, that her husband would have encouraged Jaime Martíns engagement at the Academy:

“I am delighted that Jaime Martin will conduct these concerts and Neville would be pleased. Neville was longing for Jaime to receive the recognition that he felt Jaime deserves, especially in Germany. From the first time Neville saw Jaime conduct, he knew he had great talent, and his only regret was losing a most splendid flautist from the Academy.” Lady Marriner, November 2016
